Orthokeratology, or ortho-k, is a revolutionary way to treat vision problems like near- and farsightedness. This nonsurgical procedure eliminates the need for eyeglasses and daytime contact lenses through gentle eye reshaping while sleeping.

Eye Care

Like ordinary contact lenses in Three Rivers, MI, your ortho-k lenses need special aftercare. Southwest Vision Center provides these tips on taking care of them properly:

Clean, Rinse, and Disinfect

When you get your ortho-k lenses kit, we will give you a care regimen. It is important that you follow this regimen to prevent serious ocular complications. You need to clean, rinse, and disinfect your ortho-k lenses to remove any mucus, films, secretions, or deposits that have accumulated while you were wearing them.

Our optometrist in Granger, IN, Dr. Jennifer Lambart, recommends you do the care regimen immediately after wearing the lenses. Always wash your hands before handling the lenses and use fresh, unexpired lens care solutions. You should also remove your lenses according to the prescribed schedule.

When you are cleaning the lenses, clean one lens first. Place it front side down on your palm and put in several drops of cleaning solution. Then, apply small pressure in a swirling motion using the index finger on your other hand. Rinse with saline afterward and place in the correct storage. Repeat the process for the other lens. Once both lenses are in the case, apply disinfectant.

Attend Follow-Up Checkups

Aftercare appointments with eye doctors in Granger, IN, are significant to make sure that your lenses still fit your eyes. Recommended schedules include the first morning after your overnight wear, after one week, after a month, and regular check-ups every six months.

Keep in mind that your lenses maybe modified to fit your eye health status. You should also always bring your lenses in every check-up with your eye doctor. After a year, we will recommend another set of ortho-k lenses.
