Your children’s eyesight takes a central role in their learning and development. At their young age, they may also have difficulties realizing they have problems with their vision. This is why Southwest Vision Center emphasizes their need to have routine eye assessments. There are actually two ways of doing so: vision screenings and comprehensive eye exams. Let your reliable children’s eye doctor lay down their respective functions and differences.

Vision Screenings

Vision Screenings

Most schools may require your children to undergo vision screenings. These usually involve a quick and general evaluation of your kid’s visual health. Their main goal is to establish your child’s risk for developing any visual deficiencies, which may interfere with their learning. A general physician, nurse, or eye doctor usually performs this type of eye test.

Comprehensive Eye Exams

A comprehensive eye exam involves a thorough and in-depth assessment of all aspects of your children’s eye health. This is why it’s usually performed by an ophthalmologist or optometrist. We may ask about your past and present history, including diseases, medications, or injuries that may have affected you or your relatives.

Afterward, we’ll prepare a series of procedures to examine your eye structures and their respective functions. Once everything is done, we’ll then explain the test results and our suggested treatment plan. We’ll also remind you and your child when to return for your next vision test.

Why Turn to Southwest Vision Center for Your Eye Care Needs

Both eye assessment methods are essential components of your children’s preventive eye care. Whether it’s a vision screening or a comprehensive eye exam, your trusted pediatric optometrist has the knowledge, skills, and experience to perform both. It may be a good idea to have your kids undergo a vision screening first. If we find your child at risk of developing eye conditions or signs of underlying vision problems were detected, we may then perform a comprehensive eye exam.
