You may have seen this optical illusion going around the internet. This photo of kids with a tortoise is completely black and white. The checkered lines of color laid over the photo causes our brain to fill in the gaps.
Groundbreaking research by French Biotech Pixium-Vision has created a pair of smart glasses for the legally blind. It consists of pair of goggle looking glasses with an embedded camera. images are captured and transmitted to a microchip implanted in the wearer's retina. The signal is then converted into electrical signals that the brain can understand. The glasses are in clinical trial and the vision created is far from 20/20. However, this technology represents an amazing break through.
We want to round out our discussion of children's glasses today with a couple of final tips. Once your child feels good about their glasses and possibly has chosen the frames they like, it is important to check the fit. No matter how well the glasses correct the child's vision, an ill-fitting pair of glasses won't be worn. Two areas of fit are especially important. Do they stay in place or slide down the face at every turn? Is the nose piece comfortable or does it pinch? Either of these problems is a simple fix in our office. Bring them in for a quick adjustment.
Finally, be sure to follow your eye doctor's recommendations and help your child meet their wear goals.

Once we get our child feeling good about having glasses, consider letting them choose their own frames. I know, this may seem terrifying. What they think looks good probably isn't going to be what you would choose. It also may not match all of their outfits. However, glasses are a customizable facial feature. They are a great opportunity for your child to express their own style. Plus, they are much more likely to wear them if they feel that they look cool.

There are a lot of different ways you can approach your makeup to make it look good with your glasses, whether you’re aiming for a neutral look or a bold one.
Lipstick can do a lot to balance out the shape of your face, particularly if you wear glasses with thick or dark frames. Try a bold or bright color.
The frames of your glasses cast shadows, and sometimes that makes it look like you have dark circles under your eyes. Concealer can work wonders to reduce this problem.
Are your glasses always slipping down the bridge of your nose? A dab of primer on each side will keep them in place.
When it comes to eyeshadow, it’s a good idea to stay neutral but bright. A bold color combined with glasses can create an overwhelming, busy effect. Stay simple and bright to create a great natural-look that will make your eyes pop.
Finally, you can wear mascara and glasses at the same time. The trick to avoid getting mascara smudges all over your lenses is to apply your mascara more to the roots of your lashes than the tips. You can also curl them so that they don’t stick straight out towards the lenses.

Regular exercise is good for your eyes. Research has found that people who exercise at least 3 times each week reduce there risk of developing wet age-related macular degeneration by as much as 70%. At the same time, they reduce the risk of glaucoma by as much as 25%. This doesn't mean that you have to lift weights or hop on the treadmill. Any sport that you enjoy doing can be beneficial. the key is regularity.

Wearing Contacts in the pool. This is never a good idea. Even wearing googles over contacts does not eliminate the risks. The cleanest pool is full of harmful microorganisms. Many of these are killed by the chlorine. Why does pool water sting the eyes? You may think it is the chlorine. In fact, it is a compound called Chloramine. Chloramine forms when chlorine reacts to the dirt, urine, and oils in the water. While this sounds pretty gross, the chlorine kills the harmful bacteria. The best way to keep these particles out of your eyes is to wear a good fitting pair of swim goggles. They are even available in a prescription.
